Bellagio, at the heart of Lake Como

Lanes, gardens and walks by the water shape a day in Bellagio, where Lake Como opens towards its three branches.

A day between village and lake

Bellagio is best explored on foot, starting in the centre and allowing steps, lanes and lakeside paths to lead towards quieter places. Its position in the middle of the Lario keeps the water present throughout the visit.

You can devote your time to the village, enter the gardens when they are open, or reach Pescallo and other hamlets. Arriving via Varenna and ferry adds a short crossing to the journey, but requires you to check timetables, queues and weather.

Three sides of Bellagio

The day can alternate the movement of the centre, the quiet of the gardens and the more intimate pace of the lakeside hamlets.

The centre and lakefront

Piazza Mazzini, the stepped lanes and village streets form a spontaneous route among façades, small shops and glimpses of the water. The lakefront is the easiest place to pause and watch the ferries come and go.

The gardens and villas

Villa Serbelloni Park and the gardens of Villa Melzi show two different ways of shaping the lake landscape. Both have their own seasonal opening and visiting arrangements, which should be checked before departure.

Pescallo and the hamlets

Away from the centre, Pescallo and the other hamlets reveal a quieter Bellagio. Small harbours, lanes and shores let you continue on foot without remaining only in the busiest streets.

How to arrive and pace the visit

For guests at La Corte, travelling via Varenna and ferry can make the journey part of the experience. The alternative is to drive directly to Bellagio; each option has different timings and practical considerations.

  1. Choose your route

Decide whether to reach Varenna, park and take the ferry, or drive to Bellagio. The choice depends on timetables, traffic, weather and parking availability.

  2. Begin in the centre

From the landing or car park, enter the village and follow the central streets to the lakefront. Use this first part to get your bearings without fixing too many stops.

  3. Add one garden or hamlet

Choose one main experience from Villa Serbelloni, Villa Melzi or the walk towards Pescallo, according to the season and the time available.

  4. Leave time for the return

When returning by ferry, allow for queues and the last useful sailing. By car, consider traffic on the lakeside roads and return to La Corte without compressing the day.

Before setting out for Bellagio

Seasonality affects gardens, ferries and visitor numbers. Checking these three elements is more useful than following an overly detailed schedule.
