Como, between city, lake and Brunate

Como connects the Cathedral and central streets with the lakefront; the funicular carries the landscape onwards to Brunate's villas and views.

A city open to the Lario

Como's centre brings architecture, city life and a relationship with the water together within an area that is easy to cross on foot. The Cathedral and Broletto mark the historic heart; a little further on, the lakefront opens the view across the first basin.

From the funicular station, you can reach Brunate in a few minutes and continue among Art Nouveau villas, viewpoints and the route towards the Faro Voltiano. It is a day to compose with restraint, choosing between city and hillside rather than pursuing every stop.

Three moments for discovering Como

The historic centre, lake and Brunate create a varied day. Each part has a different rhythm and can be expanded or shortened according to the time available.

The Cathedral and historic centre

The visit can begin in Piazza Duomo, between the Cathedral and Broletto. From here, the central streets invite you to walk without a rigid route, alternating architecture, independent shops and everyday pauses.

The lakefront and Volta's city

The lake is close to the centre. The walk follows the first basin and passes places linked to Alessandro Volta, who was born in Como, within an urban landscape that remains open to the water.

Brunate and the Faro Voltiano

The funicular reaches Brunate in a few minutes. On the hillside, Art Nouveau villas and viewpoints lead towards San Maurizio and the Faro Voltiano, which can be reached on foot or by the available local connections.

A day between the centre and Brunate

The suggested itinerary begins in the centre, meets the lake and climbs to Brunate. The order can change according to the funicular, weather and visitor numbers.

  1. Arrive and park outside the restricted-traffic zone

Choose a checked parking area and walk to Piazza Duomo. Your arrival point should prevent accidental entry into the restricted-traffic zone.

  2. Walk between the Cathedral and lakefront

Spend the first part of the day in the historic centre, then continue towards the water, stopping where your interest takes you rather than filling the route.

  3. Travel up to Brunate

Check the funicular and reach the hillside. You can stay within the village and its viewpoints or continue towards San Maurizio and the Faro Voltiano.

  4. Return to La Corte

Come back down to the city with time to spare and collect the car. The journey towards Montevecchia closes a more urban day before La Corte's quieter rhythm.

Before setting out for Como

Traffic, restricted-traffic zones, parking, the funicular and opening of cultural sites are the elements to check. Clear guidance is more useful than a rigid timetable.
